Dry-Dry Run

Journal #17

  • We went into the dry run with an outline but needed to decide how we wanted to end it. We also still couldn’t decide if we should have a game show added to it. After talking about it with my group after the dry-dry run we decided to keep it the way we had it originally. Once we made that decision we started to edit the outline to make sure the questions focused on the topic. Also, we wanted to make the show have a good flow. This was the hardest part of editing our outline. After we got into the correct format we wanted it to be we then decided on finalizing roles. We had to decide if we either wanted to have two students or a student and his professor on the show. We are still looking for a good intro and outro song. Also trying to find a set that works for our show is also very hard. Everything I find online has chairs already in the background or they look very bad, in my opinion. Overall I think as a group we are working very well together and are able to get our work done.

Dry Run

Journal #18

  • The only area that I believe we need to work on before our official speech is finalizing our outline. We have a couple of ideas that we want to work with but we can’t decide which one. We want to either add an advertisement at the beginning or add a game at the end. Most of the other groups are using the game show idea, so I would like to use the advertisement so that we can be unique. The timing of our dry-run was just under six minutes which is perfect since we need to still add an outro to the end. The timing should work out perfectly for us and if it doesn’t I will be able to edit it down. Another thing that is we need to complete is finding an intro and outro song for the ad and the talk show. Also, we still need to find a background for the green screen. I think this is the hardest part because the ones I can find are either very animated or they are being used by other groups. Finding a good one isn’t hard to do but it is more time-consuming searching through google. Other than those small bumps in the dry-run our group is all ready for our recording.

*Tylenol (acetaminophen)  Advertisement*

Tylenol is a pain reliever and a pain reducer.

Tylenol is used to treat many conditions such as headache, muscle aches, arthritis, backache, toothaches, colds, and fevers.

Important Information:

You should not use Tylenol if you have severe liver disease

An overdose of acetaminophen can damage your liver or cause death.

Call your doctor at once if you have nausea, pain in your upper stomach, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or jaundice (yellowing of your skin or eyes).

Stop taking Tylenol and call your doctor right away if you have skin redness or a rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling.

Welcome back everyone to our segment of “Ionic bonds” where we bring guests from different fields of study to see how they contribute to our society.

My name is brooke and Today we have Dr. Jabor, a professor from the University of New England and Kevin, a pre-pharmacy student from the UNE. And they’re here to talk about their groundbreaking discovery.

So tell me a little bit about yourselves…

  • I know there is this common misconception that pharmacists only work at CVS or RiteAide in the back counting pills and handing them out, is there more to what pharmacists actually do?

There’s more to pharmacists than what most people think. The pharmacists that we see at CVS and RiteAide are called community pharmacists. However, fewer than half of all pharmacists work in community pharmacy settings. There are community pharmacists, ambulatory care pharmacists, cardiology pharmacists, hospital pharmacists, and more.

  • What is the role of pharmacists?

Pharmacists use their expertise to prepare and dispense prescriptions, ensure the medicines and doses are correct based on the patient’s health and other factors, and counsel patients regarding safe and appropriate use of medications.

  • Talk to us about the pharmacy program at the University of New England

At UNE we have a 6 year pharmacy program, 2 years of undergraduate classes at the Biddeford campus after that students go to the college of pharmacy at the Portland campus for 4 years to get their PhD. With their degrees they can take different paths depending on their interests.

  • Kevin, why do you think pharmacy is the right path for you?

I believe pharmacy is the right path for me because I really enjoy helping people but I don’t enjoy the hands-on aspect. I would prefer to work in the background by getting people the medicine they need instead of having to deal with all of the blood and gore.

  • How is the school work load?

Difficult but manageable

Time management

Help from teachers and other students

  • I understand this is your first year as a pre pharmacy student, do you have a path you are interested in after you graduate?

Work in the ICU

Working as a team

  • You have made an outstanding discovery with your recent research, what has been the most rewarding thus far?

From our research we have found a new drug that could possibly treat small cell lung cancer, the most destructive and aggressive form of the disease. Currently, this drug is undergoing clinical trials and could potentially be used to treat patients who have tumors that are not affected by chemotherapy treatment. The medication works by analyzing energy production in cancer cells as a means to prohibit tumor growth.

  • Kevin, how did you contribute?

I contributed my coming in out of class time to help professor Jabor by setting up her lab area and getting all of the starting stages. Making sure all of the necessary tools were clean and available. I would also write any observations from the study.

I just want to thank everyone for watching, and a really big thank you to our guests Dr. Jabor and Kevin, congratulations on your discovery, and I hope you continue to do great things for our healthcare system. Remember to watch the Brooke show, every Monday 2-3;20!

Journal #19

  • I feel that overall as a group we did very good and maybe even the best that we could. The reason I say this is because we got double-booked with another to use the green room. We were unable to watch our clips after recording them. We had no clue if they were good clips or if there were any issues with the camera or the microphone. So the videos themselves we did our best that we could. We stayed to the script that we had created so that we knew that our lines would be right. We all worked on the outline together and are very happy with the way it flowed. I was a little worried it wouldn’t flow nice but I think it turned out very good. For the editing of the video that took a lot of time and hard work. It took me multiple hours to get the video to be fully edited with the correct volume levels, green-screen effect, music, and backgrounds. It was a lot of work but in the end, I am very happy with our final product. As a group, I believe we all put in an equal amount of work and we are all happy about how our video turned out.
